vCenter 5.5 Appliance Root Password Expired

Yep.  It happened to me this week about 15 minutes before a Varrow vCloud Air Deep Dive presentation where I was going to do live demos.  You have to love the live demo, right?  Well, when it happened I first found Mike Foley’s blog post about how to disable the expiration, but it was too late for that, but useful after I fixed it.  I did some poking around and figured out how to do it by booting the appliance to single user mode.  That being said, today a VMware KB Article was released that explains exactly what I figured out in a pinch.

If you have NOT adjusted the settings yet use Mike’s post to tweak it.  If you go to log in today and you are locked out the single user mode fix works great.  Never let it be said I don’t like to break stuff in my lab!  I’d suggest you all go check the settings today if you are using the vSphere 5.5 Appliance so you can avoid the issue all together.
