First Impressions of the Logitech Revue

Well, if you have not heard about it GoogleTV has been out for a few weeks now on certain Sony TV’s as well as the Logitech Revue.  The only reason I picked up the Revue was because DISH Network was running a special for existing customers with a huge discount.  That, and it has massive DISH DVR integration unlike with other DVR units.  So far I have to say I am most impressed with the search features.  With one button you can bring up a search window that finds EVERYTHING with that keyword.  For example, just type in “Spike” and you will see the channel for SpikeTV and the currently playing show right there to select.  This means no more hunting for channel numbers or even using the DISH Guide for that matter.  It even has a hook into your DVR recordings.  On the downside I have yet to figure out the usefulness of the google account requirement and how multiple accounts really works.  Pandora works pretty awesome as an application, but Netflix is the 1st generation app.  That needs to get a quick update if you ask me to the PS3/Wii/xBox version of the Netflix app.  There is full DLNA media server support for videos, music, and pictures on your network which was hard to locate at first.

I would give the device a solid “B” at this point and we will have to see what the future updates hold for additional apps, or better yet the ability to get them from the Android market.  After all it is basically running Android 2.2 as the operating system, so one can only hope.  If you have a chance to check out the DISH deal and get the full DISH integration I think you will see more functionality than with non integrated systems so give it a go.
